夏洛特·甘斯布出生于倫敦的音樂(lè)家庭。接受鋼琴啟蒙后，甘布斯曾向往繪畫職業(yè)，直到12歲登臺(tái)表演才改變初衷。甘布斯14歲時(shí)因在《不安分的姑娘》中感人至深的表演而成為愷撒獎(jiǎng)的最具前途女演員，隨后又于1989和1997年兩獲愷撒最佳女演員提名，2000年終于奪得愷撒最佳女配角獎(jiǎng)。

她是Serge Gainsbourg和第三任妻子英國(guó)影星Jane Birkin的女兒，出生在倫敦，在法國(guó)長(zhǎng)大。 作為Gainsbourg的女兒，Charlotte從小就被父親帶出來(lái)接觸媒體和電影，電視臺(tái)的娛樂(lè)節(jié)目經(jīng)常邀請(qǐng)Serge 和她靦腆可愛的小女兒。
